FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions:

1) Where do the Boston Warrior Teams play?

Boston Warrior plays in the National Junior Prospects Hockey League. It is a USA Hockey sanctioned Tier 1 league with teams from all over the USA. We also play in Tier 1 tournaments all over North America.

2) How much travel is involved and how do you travel?

The National Junior Prospects Hockey League (NJPHL) is a nationwide league, consisting of teams from Washington State to Massachusetts, so there is a fair amount of travel. In addition, there are roughly 6-7 additional weekends where we are away for either tournaments or exhibition games.  A typical season runs from September-March.

Our long distance travel is done by a combination of state-of-the-art sleeper buses(these are the same busses used by professional hockey teams) and airplane. We generally fly out of Boston’s Logan Airport.  It is not anticipated that the 14-Under team will travel anywhere requiring a plane flight.  The 16-Under and 18-Under travel schedule will be determined when The National Junior Prospects Hockey League (NJPHL) schedules is finalized.  All travel costs ARE INCLUDED in the tuition.

3) How many days of school will my son miss?

We believe that number is 6. Most of the League Showcases are held on holiday weekends so that we will try to avoid missing school.

4) What is the tuition and what is included in the tuition figures you quote?
The tuition for the U16 and U18 teams is $6,950.00. The U14 Team is $4,995.00 and it includes the following:

1. 2 Full sheets & 1 half sheet of ice per week.
2. 25 NJPHL league scheduled games plus 25 to 35 additional games vs Prep/Junior A & B/Full Season U18/U16/U14 teams.
3. Travel (Bus/Air)
4. Dry land training twice a week
5. Private Locker Room
6. Reasonable travel schedules
7. Professional
full time Coaches and GM
8. Tournament fees
9. Practice jersey/Hockey Bag

All items worn by the team will be Warrior products.

5) Is the National Junior Prospects Hockey League (NJPHL) heavily scouted?

Yes. Although it’s a relatively new league, we know that scouts are very interested in the teams that have been selected to join in 2011-2012. The NJPHL also maintains relationships with Jr A teams and NCAA programs across the USA and Canada.

6) Will we be able to play in the Nationals?

No we are not a National Bound program. The NJPHL has it’s own national championship.

7) Will we be able to play in Canada?

Absolutely. There are no restrictions against playing Canadian teams or playing in Canadian tournaments

8) How many players are on each team?

Typically, our teams will consist of 20 players (12F, 6D, 2G)

9) How many Canadian players are you allowed to have on each team?

There are no restrictions on the number of Canadian players.

10) Does each player get equal ice time?

No. This will be at the discretion of the Coach and the needs during the game.  Our goal is player development and as such we go into every game with a plan to play everyone.

11) Does the team have a dress code?

Yes. Shirt and tie plus team jacket

12) How many times per week do you practice?  How late are the practices?

Typically, our teams practice 3 times per week.  Most of our weekday practices begin between 3:30-6pm (Sept 1st-Nov 30th) Then between (Dec 1st-Mar 30th) 7-9pm.  School work is important and the players need their rest so we schedule with these two things in mind.

13) Do the teams have scheduled dry-land training programs?

Yes. As soon as the team is picked, the schedule will be given out.

14) How do you help players advance to the next level?

Marketing yourself is extremely important.  We continuously educate and push our players to contact teams and leagues that interest them.  In addition, we are in constant contact with teams throughout the year regarding our players.  We will educate our players and their families about the recruiting process, putting them in the best position possible to make informed decisions. Our players have moved on to the USHL, NAHL, EJHL, AJHL, QMJH, BCHL, OJHL and NCAA Division 1, 2 and 3 programs.

15) Didn’t you used to play in the NAPHL? Why did you change leagues?

Simply put, the cost of participation in the NAPHL required us to look for alternatives. Our priority is player development and exposure while containing costs for players. We couldn’t justify the additional costs involved in the 2011/12 schedule. This was the bottom line and what convinced us to move to the National Junior Prospects Hockey League. The NJPHL has established itself as a well run USA Hockey Tier 1 league. Their priorities are in line with ours. Their schedule reduced our costs while still providing top notch competition and player exposure.
